Biocartis and Amgen Sign a RAS Biomarker Testing Collaboration in Europe

Biocartis Group NV (‘Biocartis’), an innovative molecular diagnostics company (Euronext Brussels: BCART), recently announced the signing of a new collaboration agreement with Amgen, a leading biotechnology company. The new agreement, which builds on the existing collaboration between both companies announced on 3 February 20161, aims at accelerating access to RAS biomarker information in up to 10 European countries.

Biocartis and Merck to Collaborate on New Liquid Biopsy Technology for RAS Biomarker Testing

Biocartis, an innovative molecular diagnostics company, recently announced that Biocartis has signed a collaboration agreement with Merck KGaA (Merck) for the development and commercialization of a new liquid biopsy RAS biomarker test for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The test will be developed on Biocartis’ innovative, fully automated molecular diagnostics system, Idylla™, which is designed to offer accurate and reliable molecular information from virtually any biological sample in virtually any setting. The new test aims to support clinical practice in performing integrated liquid biopsy RAS biomarker tests, independently of the laboratories’ volume of testing or level of expertise.

Sysmex Inostics and Merck Serono Announce First RAS Testing Center Implementing Sysmex Inostics’ Blood-based OncoBEAM Testing in Spain: Important Milestone for mCRC Patients

Sysmex Inostics, a subsidiary of Sysmex Corporation, recently announced the first RAS biomarker testing site offering their (Sysmex Inostics) blood-based OncoBEAM™ tests in Spain. Aside from Sysmex Inostics’ US-based CLIA certified laboratory, the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology located in Barcelona, Spain, will be the first of numerous medical centers globally to use OncoBEAM™ assays for patients with metastatic colorectal cancers (mCRC) once CE Mark is received. This marks an important milestone in Sysmex Inostics’ collaboration with Merck’s biopharmaceutical business, Merck Serono, for the development and commercialization of a RAS biomarker testing kit for patients with mCRC, which was signed at a ceremony coinciding with the 50th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Chicago, U.S in June 2014.

Analysis Published In New England Journal of Medicine Highlights Discovery of New Predictive Biomarkers for Vectibix (Panitumumab)

Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN) recently announced the publication of a biomarker analysis of Vectibix® (panitumumab) in combination with FOLFOX, a type of oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy, for the first-line treatment of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the analysis found that RAS mutations, beyond the known KRAS exon 2 mutations, predict lack of response to Vectibix in combination with FOLFOX. RAS mutations are mutations occurring in exons 2, 3 and 4 of KRAS and NRAS.
