Bayer HealthCare has entered into a master collaboration agreement with the diagnostic company Sysmex Inostics GmbH for the development of companion diagnostics for targeted cancer therapies. The innovative blood-based companion diagnostic solutions offered by Sysmex Inostics will complement anti-cancer agents developed by Bayer.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP) recently issued a joint, updated guideline aimed at improving the accuracy and reporting of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) testing in patients with invasive breast cancer. The guideline update is based on a systematic review of medical research literature, providing oncologists and pathologists with detailed recommendations for how to test for HER2 overexpression, interpret the results, and recommend HER2-targeted therapies. The guideline, originally issued in 2007, is being published in ASCO’s Journal of Clinical Oncology (JCO) and the CAP’s Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. The joint guideline was prepared by an ASCO/CAP Update Committee consisting of experts in breast cancer and cancer biomarkers.
Experimental Therapeutics Centre and Debiopharm Group to Collaborate for the Development of an Epigenetic Innovative Oncology Target
The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)’s Experimental Therapeutics Centre (ETC), a center of excellence to advance and accelerate drug discovery in Singapore, and Debiopharm Group™ (Debiopharm), the Swiss-based global biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the development of prescription drugs that target unmet medical needs including oncology as well as companion diagnostics, recently announced the signature of an exclusive research collaboration to develop oral small molecules targeting new class of epigenetic modulators.
Under the terms of the agreement, Debiopharm and ETC will co-finance the discovery phase of the project, whilst Debiopharm will be in charge of development.
Using a common test of brain functioning, UC Davis researchers have found differences in the brains of adolescents with the inattentive and combined subtypes of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and teens who do not have the condition, suggesting that the test may offer a potential biomarker for differentiating the types of the disorder.
